Don’t Peak Too Early This Cricket Pre Season
Think of your cricket year like the seasons. Summer, Autumn, Winter & Spring all bring different qualities and have a different purpose to ensure we world goes round . All seasons are just as important as each other for the ecosystem to flourish. The same goes for your cricket. There will be times of the year where you focus a whole lot on your skills, there is times where technique should be the main focus, then we transition to more competing bat v ball. Same for bowling, we may be working on our action but then in season we may be worrying out competing and getting batters out. There is also times when we need to focus more time on developing our bodies in the gym and running.
Right now in the Australian summer is probably the time to be developing our bodies as we have a great window where there is no competing demands , other cricket trainings that we have to consider so we are not too fatigued or sore. It should be all systems go!
Another analogy is the dimmer switch, right now we are turning up the gym & running side and turning down the skills side. This changes the closer we get to October. We are foreever adjusting the dimmer switches based on what season we are in.
There is no point hitting 5 days per week or bowling crazy volumes right now. You will peak way too early. It’s not the season for it. That time will come starting around July / August as we gradually build into the actual season. Right now your focus should be on developing that body of yours while you have the best opportunity too.
We can have it all, we just can’t have it all at the same time.
